Artists about their studio: Jan Leenders, Robberto & Milena Atzori & Racso Jugarap

What does your studio mean to you? We've asked artists Jan Leenders, Robberto & Milena Atzori & Racso Jugarap.

Jan Leenders

For me, my studio is a place of seclusion. The ideal place to shut myself off from everything. Door closed, stereo on and completely absorbed in the creative process. Away from the world, completely in the zone, for hours on end.

What makes my studio so unique is that it's just a room in my house. A few years ago this was the kids' playroom. But when they stopped playing with blocks, dolls and cars, a repurposing urged itself ;).

My studio is actually on the small side, but the big advantage is that it is so close by. Very handy for doing some quick things in between, like preparing a frame or making a quick sketch of something that's in my head. That can literally be done between soup and French fries. My 13-year-old daughter also likes to sit here and draw, paint or do crafts.

Which corner of your studio do you spend most time in?
Considering the modest size of my studio, all corners are used optimally! But the table and the easel are the two hotspots.

What is thé feature of your studio?
My walls. They are full! With new and older work, with sketches and color tests. Ideal for letting ideas sink in or uncovering links between different works. My walls are sources of inspiration for me. You can see that: a lot of the work I make builds on what I've already created.

And why am I participating in Atelier in beeld?
Works always speak louder in real life, but an exhibition in Belgium was a while ago. As a result, many friends and acquaintances only know my work from online photos. Atelier in beeld is a good time to invite them. And if some new people also come to discover my work, it will be even better.

How would you describe your atelier? We see our atelier more like a place where we live, eat, talk and think...production just come consequently.

This is what our atelier means to us:
A nest

This is why we’re participating in Atelier in beeld:
We are quite new in town and to open our atelier is a pleasant occasion to meet new people and enlarge our network.

This is why you should come visit us during the open studio days:
We and the others fellows of SUPPORT STUDIO like to welcome our guests with food and drinks as we believe that the better conversations start around a food filled table.

What’s your favourite spot in your atelier?
Surely and always the kitchen!

What’s your most productive (or favourite) time of day in the studio?
We are most productive in the late afternoon, when emails and internet communications are definitely over. We love to listen to audiobooks and immerse our self into deep productive flows.

Racso Yugarap

My atelier is my sanctuary, my place of creativity and inspiration. It's where I go to escape the outside world's distractions and focus solely on my art. It's where I explore new techniques and materials and where I let my imagination run wild.

Come visit me, because it's a unique chance to see my art up close. You'll be able to see the details and textures that are often lost in photographs and to experience the energy and passion that goes into each piece. You'll also have the opportunity to ask me any questions you might have about my art or my process. So visit me and be a part of the artistic journey.

This is why I’m participating in Atelier in beeld:
It’s a chance for me to share my art with a wider audience and to connect with other artists and art enthusiasts. It's also an opportunity for me to showcase my work in a professional setting and to gain valuable feedback on my creations.
