Mirra Markhaeva is a visual artist living in Brussels but originally from the Republic of Buryatia (located in southeastern Siberia). Her work includes murals, illustration, graphic design and sculpture. With Globe Aroma’s support, she is expanding her artistic methods to the creation of rugs based on her own illustrations.
Transforming an illustration into a tapestry takes the artwork into a new dimension: it creates another caring, comforting relationship with the viewer. It is intimate and tactile. It is both convenient and practical and a pleasure to engage in aesthetics and beauty. Making carpets also means moving beyond time and space, because carpets are an important part of a Siberian household.
