Exploring the spaces in between, Subin Son creates scenes by casting everyday objects and intangible materials to play the leading role.
Her work is based on the magic of "autonomous" compositions, that is to say on the art of elaborating visual situations, by composing elements between them, and by playing on the "tensions" when two objects interact. Through her meditative creative process, her works take on various forms, including ephemeral sculptures, site-specific installations, experimental paintings, and architecture-related interventions. They often possess a performative quality and evolve over time. Individual elements are meticulously assembled, akin to pieces of a puzzle, to create a metaphorical narrative.
