Melody Van Gompel
About the artist
Melody Van Gompel (she/her) is a young artist born in Brussels, based in Antwerp. She studied drama at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, where her passion for performing and dance arts flourished. This led her to the KASK/School of Arts in Ghent, where she graduated this year. Melody explores connections between various art forms, seeking to express her eclectic imagination through a feminist, evocative, contemplative, and poetic language. Her artistic practice reflects her longing for a euphoric, almost absurd, existential polyphony in words, movement, and paint. In her paintings, she delves into the movement of her love addiction and her concept of ‘womb(be)longing’—a term she coined to express her desire for a divine embrace with someone or something beyond herself.
