About us

Atelier in Beeld is the major open studio weekend for visual artists across Flanders and Brussels. It’s the perfect opportunity for artists to open the doors to their studios, or for visitors to discover inspiring work in unique settings.

Mark May 17 and 18, 2025, in your calendar, because that’s when the fourth edition takes place.

Are you a visual artist with a studio?

Then Atelier in Beeld might be perfect for you! You can register from January 7 to January 31, 2025, via the online registration form. There are plenty of reasons to open the doors of your studio.

  • Atelier in Beeld is the ideal moment to showcase your visual art in your own studio to a broad audience.
  • Together with over 2,000 artists, you can show the public what’s happening in the world of visual arts in Flanders and Brussels.
  • You’ll benefit from the national promotional campaign we’ll run in the lead-up to the weekend.
  • We’ll provide you with a comprehensive package of printed and digital promotional materials, giving you everything you need to communicate your participation within your network.
  • We’ll also support you with tips and tricks to help you invite your audience.
  • Want to open your studio for one or two days? The choice is yours— not all studios open for both days.
  • Would you like to demonstrate something or prefer to stay more in the background? Either option works.
  • And most importantly, participation in Atelier in Beeld is completely free.

A few conditions

Atelier in Beeld is open to all visual artists aged 18 and older with a studio in Flanders or Brussels. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, professional or non-professional, young or old, the open studio days offer an accessible way to showcase your work and workspace to a (new) audience.

As a participating artist, you work in one or more of the following techniques: sculpture, collage, design, digital art, jewelry-making, film, photography, glass art, printmaking, graphic design, installation art, illustration, calligraphy, ceramics, mixed media, mosaic, painting, street art, drawing, or textile art. We base these categories on the techniques taught at visual arts academies.

What is a studio?

Where do you usually create your visual art? The answer to that question is your studio.

Simply put, a studio is the place where visual art is made and where you can see traces of the creative process. Think, for example, of brushes and splatters of paint, sharpened pencils and pencil shavings, looms and yarn, bits of clay and a pottery wheel, a printing press and ink stains… It’s the place where future visitors can see where and how your work comes to life.

Some artists work in a large warehouse, a separate room at home, an empty building, or even just at the kitchen table.
