Art walk in the outskirts of Ghent

Jan De Proost and Veerle Verbeke from Studio Rodeberg called upon artists in their neighborhood to open their studio doors during Atelier in Beeld. A total of twelve artists responded to their enthusiastic invitation. The result? A mapped-out art walk through Mariakerke visiting twelve workplaces and exhibitions. Ideal for a day trip in the outskirts of Ghent.

1

Jo Michiels

In his artistic exploration, Jo translates a physical desire into an abstract image. For the composition of his works, he starts from (retro) pornographic photos. More specifically, he is inspired by body shapes and colors. This results in a unique visual language and recognizable color palette.

2

De Verffabriek - Lyra Oey & Luna Vermeire

Artist-run Space De Verffabriek is a new hub for art and gathering in Mariakerke, a space for artistic development, experimentation, socializing, and presentation opportunities.

3

Peter Willems

During his graphic design studies, Peter became interested in the communicative power of informative illustrations through strong concepts and processes that are first hand-drawn in a Moleskine sketchbook and then digitized on a computer.

4

Studio Rodeberg

Studio Rodeberg is a project by the artist couple Jan De Proost and Veerle Verbeke. You can also find the work of Maarten Marchau there.

5

Nicolas Van Parys

Nicolas his work is about transformation. Transformation of meaning and image through the process of cutting and reassembling, transformation of the support and change of scale when paper collage becomes painting.

6

Marianne Stevens

Marianne's work defies categorization; she paints, photographs, creates installations, video projects... and manages to emphasize her own vision in her pieces.

7

Deborah Nyst

Deborah is also active as a teacher in part-time art education; she mainly draws and paints domestic scenes and portraits. Sometimes on exceptionally large scales, considering the fragile nature of watercolor as a medium, she captures the power of vulnerability in her artwork.

8

Jan Gaudissabois

Jan: "I try not to create an illusion in my work; the material is the actual work, it's naked and raw, often evolving through exploration, repetition, pushing boundaries, going too far, excess, impulsivity."
